Planning to add or replace a trailer? Federal tax incentives may allow your business to deduct qualifying equipment costs in the year it is placed in service.*
100% Bonus Depreciation
Qualifying new and used equipment acquired and placed in service after January 19, 2025, may be eligible for a 100% first-year federal depreciation deduction.
Section 179
For tax years beginning in 2026, the maximum deduction is $2,560,000. This limit decreases dollar-for-dollar when total qualifying equipment placed in service exceeds $4,090,000. Business-income and other eligibility limits apply.
Why year end timing matters
Calendar-year taxpayers seeking a 2026 deduction must place qualifying equipment in service by December 31, 2026. The trailer must be ready and available for intended business use; an order or deposit alone is not enough. This deadline determines the deduction year, not the expiration of the 100% bonus depreciation.
